How accurate is the EU ETS cost calculation?

NaviCast pulls live vessel speed data and applies the live daily EUA market price. Costs are estimates computed from vessel size, fuel type, and speed using standard emission factors — connecting optional onboard fuel-flow sensors sharpens them further with measured consumption.

What happens if a vessel has no AIS signal?

Accepted Answer

When a vessel goes beyond coastal (terrestrial) AIS range, NaviCast automatically falls back to satellite AIS to keep tracking it in open ocean. If no signal is available from either, the vessel is flagged as having no recent data and re-checked automatically — the last-known position and speed are retained, and no eco-speed or cost figures are shown until real position data exists.

Do I need onboard sensors to use NaviCast Eco?

Accepted Answer

No — sensors are entirely optional. The whole platform, including speed alerts, EU ETS cost, and CII ratings, works from live vessel position data alone. Connecting an onboard fuel-flow or engine-load sensor sharpens accuracy further, but nothing is required to get started.

Does NaviCast Eco track CII compliance and generate reports?

Yes. Each vessel gets an indicative A-E CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) rating computed from position history and sensor data where available. A NaviCast-branded PDF compliance report — CII, eco-speed status, and alert history — is generated and emailed to the account owner automatically at the start of every month.
